PCMS2 Professional Coaching & Mentoring Series Part 2 (MCOE)
Building the Mentor Practice
In this two-hour, face-to-face workshop, Mentors are provided with the skills necessary to work with mentoring skills through strategies that are research-based and have been proven to be effective for adult learners. In this workshop, Mentors will: discuss listening and practice refining their skills; analyze what makes a good listener and what it looks like to not listen "well"; examine the skill of paraphrasing and talk with one another about the message paraphrasing sends out to those in a conversation; actively use the art of paraphrasing with one another: 1) Acknowledge and Clarify, 2) Summarize and Organize, and 3) Shift Conceptual Focus; evaluate themselves as a listener in pairs to actively speak to one another and examine how well they are focused and present in the conversation; and partake in effective coaching conversations in a triad conversation in three different roles allowing them three different perspectives: a coach, a coachee, and as an observer.
